As we wrap the Christmas season (remember the 12 days?) I want to take a brief break from the normally dark tales of noir on this Substack and hope to inspire you, if you need a boost to start your own creative efforts.
First, I want to share this story about Saul Dreier, who overcame incredible adversity and taught himself how to play drums. Then, in his eighties, he started a band (!) and since then has been touring the world with his bandmates, having played almost 100 concerts.
And I want to share this story about Oliver James, who taught himself to read at age 35 and completed 99 books (at least) in 2023. James has ADHD and had a rough start to his life, but he has a family now and is working as a motivational speaker, and hopes to write his own book one day.
We have a fair amount of snow today so I have to clear that out, but I should have the next chapter of the My Favorite Suspects story completed tonight, so keep an eye out for that this week.
Happy New Year!
