Hi everyone. About a week ago, I came down with a really bad cold, which has knocked me out. It’s been so bad that I had to take time off from work. Good news is that my symptoms are slowly decreasing and I was actually able to sleep about 6 hours in a row last night!
I’ve set a pace for myself of posting a chapter every two weeks so I just wanted to let you know why I’ve fallen behind. I’ve also picked up several new subscribers recently and want them to know that this Substack is still actively publishing.
I had to set aside Part 5 but I think that this chapter may actually benefit from the extra development time. In Part 5, Terry interacts more with A.J. and a little backstory on Terry is also revealed. I hadn’t originally planned this and I think it helps to illustrate Terry’s relationship with his suspects, amplifies the conflicts, and enriches the story. Although I did have a complete draft of “My Favorite Suspects” before I started publishing it here, that draft was designed as a short story, and the serialized scheme of my Substack gives me more room to work. This has given me more space to develop the characters and has led me to make some significant changes to the original ending.
Anyway, thanks for hanging in there with me. There’s a lot of chatter on social media and on the Substack platform, and in contrast to that, I try to keep MFS focused on the stories themselves. This means that you won’t see daily posts from me, and it also means that when I do post something, I’ve put a serious amount of effort into making it worth your time to read. I appreciate your support. You are why I keep writing.

Hang in there! I’m excited to read Part 5. I’ve realized some of my best writing has come from being sick. This will probably be your best edition yet!
